More students enlisting in the army 2

Though the Constitution states that military service is citizen's obligation, it's currently still an individual decision.

 

Since 2001, local army enlistment offices have come to universities every November and December looking for enlistees. Both male and female students aged 18 to 22 can apply. After their two-year enlistment is over, the young soldiers can either continue their studies at university, go to a military school, or serve as a non-commission official in the army.

 

"No matter what happers,  it's going to be an unique experience in my life," Yang said of his expected enlistment.

 

Students who decide to enlist enjoy some special privileges, including opportunities to attend graduate school, tuition reduction and exemption (for needy students) and so on.

 

However, Huang Keqiang, a senior at Shantou University in Guangdong Province, said he ever thought about the favored policies when deciding to join the army in 2004. Huang finished his military service in 2006.
