We visited a temple on the island in Lugu Lake the next day. When I knelt and bowed to the Buddha, Peter knelt beside me and did the same. I didn't know what he prayed but I had thought in my mind. Maybe it was true that he liked China and liked me too. Maybe it was true that he liked China and liked me too. At least he respected my tradition and my belief.
But still, I tried to avoid him. That night, we arrived in Dali and went to a pub with some friends. I got drunk. Peter insisted on walking me back to the hotel. But I stopped him and left alone. Before getting to the hotel, I received a message from him, "I just wanted to be a gentleman and make sure you would be safe, I didn't want you to think I'm a bad man." I never thought that, I just wanted him to stay there and enjoy himself. I was sorry for the misunderstanding.
At the end of the trip, we got back to the city where I lived. I couldnt avoid a face-to-face talk now. Peter told me that he thought I was trustworthy and wanted me to know that I was his dream girl. Icould wait for him, he would come back when he finished college. I told Peter that I liked him but that we couldn't get along well with each other because of different cultures and backgrounds. I didn't know what would happen to us in the future, but we were friends at that momnent. Silence. A few minutes later, Peter raised his head and said, "Good, Cheryl, I understand you."
