Her parents told her no. So did her boyfriend and her boss. But rosella Ye, 26, quit her comfortable bank job anyway. She was earning 6,000 yuan a moth, but answering customer questions on the phone wasn't exactly the career she'd dreamt for herself.
After quitting, Ye took a job with the international express and logistics company DHL. Although she's now earning half her previous salary, shew loves it. "Ican get fresh knowledge every day that will make me an expert in the field," Ye said. Oh, and she found a new boyfriend.
Ye appears to be among a growing number of young Chinese Who favor " personal growth" over "salary" while making career decisions.
According to the "2007 Best Employer for Chinese University Students Survey Report", 61.6 percent of student respondents listed "training" and career development as the key trait of a "best employer". This is the second year in a row that students have put "career development" ahead of "salary". In 2005, student respondents most often gave "salary and benefit" as their top concern.
