Cortinarius subgenus Phlegmacium Cap 8-15cm across, arched with an inrolled allowance for a continued time; bloodless chicken at first, after the centermost acceptable brick reddish, in age about purple-brown; actual adhering at first. Gills adnexed; bloodless bare again rusty. Stem 50-120 x 13-25mm at the apex, with a ample angled marginate ball up to 50mm (2in) across; blanched with anemic lavender touches, added chicken on the bulb. Flesh lavender beneath the cuticle, contrarily bloodless whitish. Odor not distinctive. Taste pleasant. Spores almond-shaped, warty, 10-13 x 6.5-8, caliber 1.6. Deposit decayed brown. Habitat beneath bandbox and fir. Found in the Pacific Northwest and Europe. Season September-October, after in the South. Edibility not known. Photographed by Greg Wright.
