When you get a  a memory module,  may be you get an description like "???MX8" or "???MX16".
What is this stand for?
The "???" is the density of memory chip on the PCB of your memory module which is measured by megabits.
The "X8" or "X16" is the width of the memory chip on the PCB which is measured by bits.
Because the width of the memory modules is 64 bits, so the number of the memory chips is equal to 64 divides 8
or 16.
You may see there are memory module with chips on one side or on both side, this means the word of side of
the memory.
You can get memory modules information by manipulating the registers on the ICH which is using for managing
SMBus.
