《The Apprentice》 （学徒），又译《飞黄腾达》，是美国收视率最高的真人秀节目之一，每期节目共有16至18名参赛者，分成两组，到纽约来面对“主持人”美国地产大亨唐纳德. 杜林普的挑战，最后胜出的一位则可以得到一年的合约，在唐纳德.杜林普旗下的某个公司担任“学徒”。
每集16位参赛者都会被分成两队，从事五花八门的工作，比如推销瓶装水，用三轮车载客，经营餐厅，卖画，推销慈善活动，装修公寓并将之租出等等，盈利高的队伍赢，盈利低的当然就是输，输的那队将会被召进会议室，必有一人会被淘汰出局。
“You are fired ！”（你被解雇了！）成了美国最为流行的口头禅之一，因为它在《飞黄腾达》剧中反复地出现。当杜林普对某个队员说出这句话时，就意味那个队员将被载掉。
被裁掉的未必是对任务失败负最大责任的人，而是在杜林普看来犯了最大错误的人。举个例，在一次任务中，一个选手是上一个任务的项目经理，因为他们队伍获胜，所以按照规则他不会被淘汰，但他想表现自己与团队共进退，于是主动要求放弃“免死金牌”。他在任务中表现不错，但杜林普却出人意料地把他淘汰了。看到这里，大概也不难理解为什么这个节目会这么吸引人了，它很真实地反应了职场上激烈的竞争和办公室政治，对于在职场上拼博又或者刚毕业想要找工作的人来讲，这样的一个节目，会让人获益良多。
