Spider-Man's back... and he's dressed in black.
Sony Pictures revealed a possible new look for the hero of the upcoming Spider-Man 3 movie. And our hero has swapped his traditional red-and-blue duds for an all-black Spidey suit. The poster even makes an explanation that this is NOT a black-and-white picture.
It immediately set Spider-fans wagging their tongues curiously. What can this mean? Is Spidey, whose head appears to be bowed mournfully, crying the loss of a loved one? Or is this the biggest hint yet that Spider-Man 3 will feature the Venom storyline? In the comics, the black costume first appeared in the middle of Marvel's Secret Wars, a 1984 mini-series. Spidey tries on a black suit that later comes alive and becomes Venom, his biggest enemy.
Spider-Man writer Peter David cautions that the clothes don't always make the man. Unlike other super-heroes, Spider-Man is about the man inside the costume. “Bruce Wayne, even without the costume, is still Batman, but Spider-Man is Peter Parker,” David said. “Inside he is still the same guy that we have come to know and love and respect.”
We're not sure yet. But we'll keep plugging away until we get an answer. Meanwhile, Spider-Man 3 is set for release in May of next year.
