Prepositions of place are used in a prepositional phrase to show where something is.
A prepositional phrase has the structure of: preposition + noun. For example:
Your CD is on the table.The dishes are in the cupboard.The window is behind the curtains.The toilet is next to the sink.
For the preposition between, use the structure: preposition + noun and noun. For example:
The dining room is between the kitchen and the bathroom.
Conjunctions are used to connect ideas. Each conjunction connects ideas in a different way.
But is used to contrast two ideas. It can connect words, phrases or clauses. Not can be used with the second idea to show the contrast. For example:
There's a bed but not a chair in the bedroom. (two nouns) There's a TV in the living room, but not in the bedroom. (two prepositional phrases) There's a table in the dining room but there isn't a cupboard. (two clauses)The rug in the bedroom is blue, but the chair is orange. (two clauses)
And is used to show addition. It can connect words, phrases or clauses. For example:
There is a fridge and a microwave in the kitchen. (two nouns) There are dishes on the table and on the counter. (two prepositional phrases)There's a TV in the bedroom and there's a lamp in the living room. (two clauses)
