1. Paralympic torch relay begins:
  From August 29 to September 6, the Beijing Paralympic torch relay will travel 11 Chinese cities along 2 routes. The Ancient China route will will pass through famous ancient cities, including Xi'an and Luoyang. The Modern China route will pass through some developed cities, including Shenzhen and Shanghai. The 2 torch relays will converge in Beijing on September 5 and will reach the National Stadium for the opening ceremony the next day. 20% of the torchbearers are disable people.
 
2. Shopping Malls in Bird's Nest

6. Louis Cha novel set for stage:
  Louis Cha's martial arts novel will be put on the stage for the first time as the dramatic rights of his last novel "The Deer and the Cauldron" have been obtained by Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center recently. The national premiere of the drama version will be held in Shanghai in middle December. The novel has been adapted into TV plays, movies and even video games since 1980s.
 
7. Champion to auction gold medal:
  Olympic champion Zou Kai will auction his gold medal from the floor exercise and donate all the money to quake-stricken Sichuan. The auction is planned for September. Zou, a Sichuan native, won 3 gold medals at the Beijing Games, the other 2 in the men's horizontal bar and men's gymnastics team.
 
8. Merkel most powerful woman:
  German Chancellor Angela Merkel is the world's most powerful woman for the 3rd straight year, topping Forbes 2008 list of the top 100 women based on their career, economic impact and media coverage. US secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ranks No. 7. The rest of the top 10 is made up of the chief executive officers worldwide.
 
9. 3 mummies found in Peru:
  Archaeologists have found 3 mummies nearly 1300 years old in the heart of Peru's capital. One of the mummies was named "the lady of the mask" by the archeological team, for its painted mask with mysterious large blue eyes. The head archaeologist said "The mask had very firm eyes, they seemed very strong, and it shocked the archaeologists."
 
10. Mahjong next Olympic sport?
  The game of Mahjong is popular among Hong Kong people. According to a survey, nearly 40% of interviewees think playing Mahjong can reduce pressure and help them relax, Hong Kong's Takungpao reported. About 20% think playing Mahjong can enhance friendship just like group sports, and over 40% of Mahjong players support the idea of including the game into the Olympics.
