SCSI Addressing
A SCSI target is a device controller, not a device
There are 8 unique targets on a narrow bus, 16 on a wide bus
Each target supports eight LUNs or devices
The t#d# scheme identifies the target and LUN addresses
SCSI commands are issued by initiators:
The most common initiator is the host adapter
Host adapters do not have LUNs
There are 57(narrow) or 121(wide) positions on the bus

A disk storage array is a collection of disks combined with an array management function
An array management function controls the disk' operation and presents their storage capacity to hosts
as one or more virtual disks

SCSI-1 - Narrow, 8-bit
SCSI-2 - Wide, 16-bit

FC-AL disk drives are the only drives currently supporting dual-ported access
RAID 0-Disk striping
RAID 1-Mirroring
RAID 2-Hamming code correction
RAID 3-Striping with dedicated parity
RAID 4-Independent reads and writes
RAID 5-Striping with distributed parity
RAID 6-Striping with distributed parity and check data

Veritas Volume Manager through a device inquiry operation, which is performed by its vxconfigd daemon
