Device configuration in the Solaris Operating System
An Enterprise computer can use several different mass-storage devices. The Solaris Operating Environment
accesses these using a device driver.
The device driver allows the operating system to communicate with a specific drive. Device drivers used by the kernel are defined during tye system boot process. The OpenBoot programmable read-only memory(PROM) identifies every device connected to the server by its device type, deivce path, address, and world-wide number. It places this information in files accessed by the auto-configuration routines in the kernel

The luxadm utility provides an administrative command line tool for determining information about current Sun StorEdge products, such as the RAID Storage Module(RSM), sun StorEdge A5000, and SPARCstorage Array enclosures. The luxadmd command has limited uses on the Sun StorEdge A3500FC controller and Sun StorEdge T3 Arrays.
Plug-in Silicone Operating System (pSOS) is a real-time operating system that runs on the Sun StorEdge T3 Controller. The operating system is stored in a protected area on each disk in the array. The Sun StorEdge T3 logical unit number(LUNs) are configured and software and firmware are updated from a networked terminal using the pSOS command-line interface(CLI)
Veritas Volume Manager is a supported program developed by Veritas Software, Inc. It provides for the addressing of very large storage systems. Veritas Volume Manager can create and monitor large volumes of RAID disk space, and it supports dynamic multi-pathing(DMP), which allows the automatic use of multiple paths to dual-ported disk drives.
