The game animations are fluent and downright sexy  sometimes, there is some real eye candy in PES 14. The major selling point for FIFA 14 has to be its raft of excellent online modes. From the addictive Ultimate Team to the frantic madness of Pro Clubs, there really is something for every fan looking to enter the online pitch. The new Legends Mode exclusive to Xbox 360 looks set to be the next big thing for FIFA, so expect EA to really extend that come this time next year.

A weak point for PES in the last few years, due to technical issues and connectivity problems with lag cheats, Konami has started to address these issues with PES 2014, and the results are a lot better than last year. Konami place a heavy emphasis on regular patches to tweak the gameplay based on feedback, and even though the community is small compared to FIFA’s, there is incredible fun to be had in Master League Online, a game mode that could potentially be better than Ultimate Team.

So which game should you purchase Well for me, FIFA 14 is an improvement from FIFA 13, however, with the Ignite engine only available on next gen consoles I personally would only consider buying a next gen copy of the game, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a great game on the current gen consoles. With PES 2014 Konami have taken huge strides towards making a more fluid and much more realistic simulation than in previous titles and if you are already a PES fan you will love it. PES 2014 plays quite similar to FIFA now, but with the lack of licensed Barclays  Premier League teams I feel the majority of British people would feel better off purchasing FIFA 14 instead.
