25 million to expand network of physicians
OnSiteDocs has landed $6.25 million in venture capital financing, money that it will use to continue developing a network of physicians who treat patients at the place where they got hurt or sick.New investors include , , with total financing in the privately held company at just over $7 million."The big thing we are doing is getting people the appropriate care where and when they need it," said Chief Executive , the former managing director of venture investments at . Derrickson, who joined OnSiteDocs as chief executive in January, said the company employs four doctors in Seattle and two in the San Francisco Bay area, with a physician always on call.Since the Seattle company was founded in 2000 by Dr. , OnSiteDocs has made more than 12,000 visits to patients in homes, hotels, businesses and other locations. The 18person company is different from most medical providers in that it does not operate a clinic. All of its calls are onsite, Derrickson said.Started as a personal family physician practice, OnSiteDocs has expanded recently with employers using it to treat employees both in the workplace and at home. Now, Derrickson said, about twothirds of its business is employersponsored. Corporate customers include Costco, Stoneway Concrete, NC Power Systems and The .Because it is a "predictable expense" and can help people avoid the emergency room, Derrickson said that corporations can save money by enrolling employees in the program. However, he is quick to point out that the service does not replace emergency room care. "If someone has chest pains, they go to the ER," Derrickson said. "No questions asked."
54 and still getting faster
GreenwoodGreatest accomplishment: A year ago, I decided to run the Paris Marathon and wanted to break out of the slow part of my running career. So I hooked up with Kees Tuinzing, who coaches the Tamalpa Runners. He and his amazing group of athletes helped me shave an hour and a half off my marathon time.
Gear you can't live without: New Balance 1010 running shoes. The key to the perfect shoe: someone who knows how to fit you. My coach, who manages Arch Rival in Greenbrae, and his staff are the best.
Where you train: Marin County, which is why I am moving there. It is running mecca!
Best time to train: Morning, without a doubt. It is a great way to start the day and then it is finished and not niggling at the back of your mind all day.
Most annoying thing people assume about athletes in your sport: That women "of a certain age" can't reach for and grasp the stars.
Advice you'd give a rookie: At my age, you have a choice: Either get in the rocker or ride the rocket. It's all about identifying what you will do and then making the commitment (rain or shine), even if it is walking five minutes out your front door and back. The next day, make it six minutes, and so on.
