While none of us would probably ever consider ourselves financial criminals, "sketchy" money habits can be illegal.
1. Signing someone else's name on a check. An adult child signs for an elderly parent to help them keep up with their bills. A son or daughter signs for a parent because they're at work. A parent signs for their child because they're away at college. Even if your loved one doesn't object, it could still be considered forgery unless a power of attorney is in effect.
2. Posing as someone else to get credit. Obtaining credit these days isn't easy, but that doesn't mean you can go to lengths like applying for credit in your child's name to open accounts, even if the whole family including the child will benefit.
3. Writing bad checks even if you have overdraft.
4. Fudging loan applications. When you're refinancing or applying for any kind of loan, it can be tempting to inflate income or hide debt, but lying on a loan application is fraud. Besides, the refi process is so thorough these days, don't even bother. It's both unethical and unrealistic.
5. Copying currency. Even if you have money to burn, it's illegal to literally turn it into ashes. You're not even allowed to copy it. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, if you make a copy of currency it has to be 150% larger or 75% of the normal size.
From thinking it's no big deal to sign a family member's name to making a quick copy of a dollar bill for a fundraising poster, these habits can get you in trouble.

Sometimes, when the path is rocky, you need to , find a new balance point, recenter yourself, and keep putting one foot in front of the other. That the mature course of action; that the safe bet. But sometimes, frankly, you need to say, "Screw you, path," and start trouncing on the grass. There will be slimy snails along the way, and pebbles that sneak into your shoe and wedge in that tender spot between your stinky toes. And that can hurt like a mother but still, it your path.
