1 billion in pot destroyed in raids on federal lands

Operation Mountain Sweep has resulted in , the destruction of 578,000 marijuana plants, Benjamin B. attorney for the Eastern District of California, said in a press release. Fish and Wildlife Service as well as local agencies, targeted growing sites on public lands in seven Western states Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.Wagner said 14 individuals in California have been indicted on charges resulting from Operation Mountain Sweep. Among those pot farms were sites in national forests and parks, including Death Valley National Park.Besides producing an illegal crop, the pot farms can do longterm damage to public lands by destroying trees and vegetation, introducing chemicals and pesticides, diverting water sources, and generating large amounts of trash."Those who cultivate marijuana on public lands pose a safety threat to the public and an environmental threat to the land. Many of the grow sites are controlled by drug trafficking organizations, which arm their cultivators with dangerous firearms. The poisons they spread kill wildlife and native plants and pollute watersheds, Wagner said in the press release.Opinion: Marijuana law just creates criminalsFour tons of marijuana pulled from oceanIts sad that sooo much tax payer money was spent on this while so many more dangerous and harmful criminal enterprises this country are conducted with a fraction of the attention. Im not saying I suport or denounce marijauna use, but it seems like the ones who make the descisions to go after easy pot busts, are influenced by the private companies who profit from the current illeagal status of pot. ie prisions who get cheap labor from convicts, most of whom are serving minor drug infractrions.Read as: 1 Billion dollars that will not filter its way into the local economies and more people on state programs.Operation Mountain Sweep has resulted in the destruction of 578,000 marijuana plants, Benjamin B. attorney for the Eastern District of California, said in a press release. You do not have to WORK in these conditions daily. Snipers and booby traps. Legal farming is MUCH safer. I have yet to be shot at by a Real Lawabiding Farmer. These illegal operations generally include illegal aliens. hence the need for homeland security. Also. you may not be aware. but there have been several attacks and deaths to law abiding, tax paying citizens of this Great Country, by these people growing these crops. The damage and injuries they are causing and COSTING us tax payers is staggering.
