Mechanical Puzzle Appreciation
(1) First of all, I am going to tell the reader that it actually consists of 3 layers, namely the first, the middle and the lower layer. For the first layer, it is an H-Sc-Sc-Sc-T chain, which is a closed system of the interlocking-ring puzzle system. For the middle layer, it is an H-Ft-Ft-Ft-T chain, which is mainly an open system. For the lower one, it is an H-Ft-Sc-Sc-T chain, which is a mixed system.
(2) What is a closed system? If looking at the chain just mentioned, you will find a closed loop. What is an open system? If taking away the head, it becomes an Ft-Ft-Ft-T chain, you will find there is an opening at the beginning.
(3) What is the difference between the closed and open system? The most obvious one is when you start to play the H-Sc-Sc-Sc-T chian from the normal starting position i.e. the tail, you will find that the sword will come out very near from the tail. But for the H-Ft-Ft-Ft-T chain, starting from the same starting position, you will find that the sword will come out near from the head. For the mixed case, the sword will also come out near from the tail.
(4) In addition to the two junctions at the head and tail, the 3-tier structure has two more points connected in a different way. The reader should study and compare the structural formula with the photo of the material object. In the structural formula, the readers concerned should take their time to study until they can understand why there are different colors of lines or arrows, and make sure that they know what they represent.
