Last night in Boston, the official kick-off for 2012′s Newport Folk Festival took place with a solid line-up announcement sure to please those young and old. Newport Folk takes place in Newport, RI July 28 and 29 inside Fort Adams.
2012 is a big year for Newport Folk as they celebrate Woody Guthrie’s 100th birthday with a special Guthrie Family Reunion. Arlo Guthrie and family (we hear their numbers are up there) will be on-site for a special performance. My Morning Jacket leader singer Jim James and Jay Farrar, who recently released a double-disc of new music set to never-before-sung Guthrie lyrics, will also be on site for the celebration.
As well, 2012 is a political year in the U.S. and the festival comes with a host of guests fitting the bill including Tom Morello, Jackson Browne and Dawes – all of whom performed shows for Occupy in 2011.
And this is just the start: Iron & Wine, My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst, and many many others are set to play the two-day festival.
Pre-sale tickets sold out weeks before the line-up announcement. Two-day tickets are on sale now. Newport Folk is a festival like no other set in one of the most scenic harbor views around. We hope to see you there.
