ODAY我们正在测试SolarWinds的虚拟化管理器,产品可帮助IT部门必须管理大量的虚拟机企业级软件兼容和高度集成和Hyper-V这意味着它可以多数企业虚拟部署

Features:

  • Real-time dashboards simplify forecasting, detection, & troubleshooting of capacity bottlenecks.
  • Identifies VM sprawl, helps you reclaim & optimize space, & reduces licensing costs.
  • Tracks VM & host configurations over time & identifies drift from your “gold standard”
  • All the functionality & more of other leading virtualization management tools – at a fraction of the cost.
  • Easy to download, deploy, & use – start monitoring your VMs in less than an hour.
In this review, I will explain how to install Virtualization Manager 5.0 and provide some details about the many kinds of information you can easily get insight on.

Virtualization Manager

Virtualization Manager is an enterprise-class, tier 1 virtualization management product that provides a number of services for virtualized environments.

There are a number of factors that make Virtualization Manager 5.0 a fantastic tool. First of all, the product is deployed as either a Hyper-V or VMware vSphere virtual appliance. You don’t have to mess around with an installer to get the base product up and running. This allows a full deployment inside of 30 minutes in most cases. Finally, Virtualization Manager 5.0 is an affordable tool with pricing starting at $2,995, which allows you to manage and monitor up to 50 running virtual machines. Note that powered off virtual machines don’t count toward licensing limits.

Product installation

The installation starts with downloading the software:

VM 5.0.1 for vSphere or VM 5.0.1 for Hyper V and the Virtualization Manager Administration Guide

The download contains a zip file with all the required file for deploying the Virtualization Manager OVA. In my review I tested the vSphere version and contains the following files:

I imported the OVA file into my vCenter environment, Accepted the license agreement, chose a good name, resource pool and placement on my shared storage as a thin disk.SNAGHTML5137d3

You can configure your fixed (recommended) IP and continue to finish deployment
SNAGHTML53d52a

After deployment turn on the VM and browse to the you gave the VM.

First the Configuration Wizard pops up and you can configure your vCenter together with the credentials. After this finished you need to run the Configuration and Performance to have it’s 1st run. Configure your SMTP server to allow the appliance to send alerting emails. press finish.image

The trial gives you 30 days to test

The dashboard looks good. It has Alerts, map and latest metrics on important counters.I kept it running for some hours and stressed my environment to the max so I would get some good alerts:image

When you click an Alert it gives you all the important info:

You can easily create new widgets with the counters important to you:

My thoughts

I’ve used a lot of monitoring tools and many are simply overwhelming. Virtualization Manager 5.0 brings ease to a process, which, frankly, should be easy. It’s robust feature set, which includes extremely deep monitoring on a per resource, per host, per VM, per datastore basis, and the addition of Hyper-V make Virtualization Manager 5.0 a winner.
