How to Make Your Own Blend of Aromatherapy Oils For Massage
Aromatherapy combines the relaxing and calming experience of a massage with the healing benefits of essentials oils. Nowadays there are hundreds of different pure essential oils available on the market and practically anyone can make their own blends to use for massage. You don't need to buy too many oils though; usually for a successful blend you need about 5 complementary essential oils and one carrier oil to dilute the concentrated oil mix.
Before going off shopping the whole range, you need to educate yourself first a bit on the properties of the essential oils, as some are calming and relaxing, others are rejuvenating, yet others have additional healing properties. Also not all oils go well with each other, and if you happen to mix together two oils that do not mix well, you will not enjoy the smell of what is rubbed all over your body.
Once you know which oils you want to use, you need a carrier oil which will dilute your blend. There are several carrier oils that you can purchase, from jojoba oils to almond oil to olive oil to apricot oil, you will find that there is plenty to choose from, and each oil is great for massage. Some oils are used by massage therapists on their own, kjhdfopr without the addition of essential oils as carrier oils make perfect massage oils.
To make your aromatherapy blends, here are a couple of pointers on which fragrances go well with each other. Floral smells go nice together with citrus or woodsy oils. For relaxing properties, lavender, chamomile, ylang-ylang and vanilla are your perfect blend. If you want to feel afterwards uplifted and full of energy, use a mixture of peppermint, lemongrass and eucalyptus.
No matter which oils you combine together, you need to remember to dilute them properly in the carrier oil. For each 1 ounce of carrier oil you should add 10-15 drops of essential oils. Once the oils are properly mixed with the carrier oil, best is to store them for one day in a dark (usually brown) bottle, as the true fragrance does not get released immediately. So to really enjoy the blended smells, use the oils for massage purposes the next day.
Here is a typical aromatherapy massage oil recipe well loved by many alike. It is used to sooth and rejuvenate tired muscles and tissue after a hard day at work. I have tested it as well and it's truly delightful on the skin as well as to the olfactory senses.
Add 4 tablespoons of carrier oil
13 drops of lavender essential oil
5 drops of peppermint essential oil
2 drops of rosemary essential oil
4 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
Add first the carrier oil to the bottle and then add one by one the essential oil drops. My personal preference is to shake the bottle after adding each type separately to briefly check for fragrance.
Once you start mixing your own blends for massage, your creativity will take you a long way and you will soon get a sense of what you can and cannot mix together. Beware as making your own blend of massage aromatherapy oils can be highly addictive!2008
