How to Make Ubuntu 12.04 Look Like Mac OS Lion

his tutorial is a manual way customizing your ubuntu 12.04 desktop to make it look like Mac os lion.

First see the screenshots:

1. Install Cairo Dock, the bottom launcher.

Open up a terminal window, install this from cairo dock team ppa by executing following three commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cairo-dock-team/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install cairo-dock cairo-dock-plug-ins

Now, log out. There’re sessions “cairo dock with gnome”, “cairo dock with gnome classic”, “cairo dock with unity panel”, choose your favorite to log in and go on step 2.

2. Install mac os lion icons, cursors, window and gtk themes.

Here I installed the themes from . Just execute following three commands in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:noobslab/themes sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install mac-os-lion-theme mac-os-lion-cursors mac-os-lion-icons

Now in Advance Settings (sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool) apply the themes:

3. Install and configure the plymouth flash screen

Download Paw-OS X Plymouth theme

Extract the package, copy and paste into “/lib/plymouth/themes/” (Use sudo nautilus to launch nautilus with root privilege or) with commands:

sudo cp -R ~/Downloads/Paw-OSX/ /lib/plymouth/themes

Install and apply the theme:

sudo update-alternatives --install /lib/plymouth/themes/default.plymouth default.plymouth /lib/plymouth/themes/Paw-OSX/paw-osx.plymouth 100 sudo update-alternatives --config default.plymouth

chose Paw-OSX from list and finally run this to take effect:

sudo update-initramfs -u
