Following behind two bumper puzzle compendiums inevitably leads to some deja vu. If the puzzles are all new, their formats are not.
We're sure we've built Layton's hat out of Tetris blocks several times before and there's only so many times a man is willing to follow cryptic map directions before he invests in an iPhone and Google Maps.
Then again, Layton hardly flies the flag for blistering innovation and shocking curveballs; his adventures are akin to a dip in a soothing bath. If said bath suddenly became a log flume we wouldn't be happy.
True novelty lies in Layton's suitcase. In the year since Pandora's Box he's thrown out the tea, camera and obese hamster, freeing up space for new toys: a parrot, a sticker book and the Laytonmobile.
