“Having a wide range of jewellery means we can provide a better service and customers don’t have to travel to the larger towns to buy what they want,” says Aldridge. She also stocks collectibles, hoping to reach out to more than just jewellery fanatics.

Aldridge says that, a few years ago, she would not have predicted leaving her family store in the hands of anyone other than herself, but recent expansion has changed her mind. “We have just opened a Pandora concept store and our son has decided to venture into the jewellery business and bing manage the new shop,” she says. “He has managerial experience but, like me when I started, he has been thrown into the deep end when it comes to knowing anything about jewellery.”
