Once again,you will have to check your answers with a friend or teacher.Make sure that you choose relevant material and that you organized your notes properly.For exercise 5 you should have ordered your notes to describe the system as a whole and then the different planets individually in sequence.For exercise 6 you should not have made notes about every point in the graph.Instead you should have described general trends and focused on particular points where significant changes took place.In exercise 7, you will have noticed that there are opposing trends in both categories ,age and sex. Again ,describe the trends and particular figures which do not fit,rather than every figure in the table. Whenever you describe a set of data you will have to be particlarly careful about what material you select and what order you present it in.
Ordering yur notes,which you have been practising ,is part of the second important writing skill :organizing your ideas .As you have seen,this starts when you make notes.It extends into the actural writing process.Good writing is clearly organised. There are many ways in which you show the reader how you have organised your ideas.
*divide your answer into paragraphs,with one paragraph for each of the main headings in your notes.
*within each paragraph,write clear sentences,with one sentence for each item in your notes.
*use linking words and expressions to show how you are organising your ideas:show the order of events with time expressions(first,next etc.)and the relationship between parts with comparatives and superlatives(the larger section,the most important bit,etc.) and with preposional phrases(next to linking these...etc.)see relevant sections of books in the bibliography for information and practice.
*for both tasks it is important to begin and end clearly as well as giving clear examples to support your ideas for task two,or to give relevant figures for task one.
*puncturation is another way of organising your writing clearly.
