Way back1 in 1992, Todd McFarlane and a few co-workers at Marve Comics decided to break off from the company and create their own line of comics which they called “Image Comics. ”Needing some new, unique characters to help launch their new brand of comics, Todd released an epic character he created in high school called “Spawn. ”Spawn went on to sell over 1.7 million copies, making it one of the best selling comics of all time. “Comics were my first love, and are still a very creative process for me,”says the artist. This character was so popular it was time to further market Spawn, and what better way to do this than make a series of toy figures! In 1994 McFarland Toys was created to release this new line of toys. After his Spawn toys did so well in the market, Todd not only expanded his line of toys but also showed off more of his fantastic artistic abilities. In 1997 McFarlane expanded his lines of licensed products with themes such as movies (A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween), music (KISS and Ozzy Osbourne) and video games (Metal Gear Solid). The licenses keep coming with McFarlane's reputation for superior design, attention to detail and high quality. So that's how he came to create these unique toys. Now, one might wonder why people are so crazy about these toys. Well, do you remember, when you were a kid, the first time you saw thriller films? This was probably the same time you were playing with G.I. Joe or Star Wars action figures. How cool would it have been if you'd had Freddy or Jason figures to help along in your pretend wars? Movie Maniacs are one of the biggest selling and collectable lines from McFarlane Toys. New releases of Movie Maniacs are always eagerly anticipated and many achieve a rapid sell. Movie Maniacs series include the classic horror figures of Edward Scissor Hands, King Kong, The Fly, Aliens....Like one of the fans said, “how could I reject it, I love those movies so much.” Another reason why people are so crazy about these toys is the detail in them. They look as if they could come alive at any second! They rely heavily on technologies like Real Scan which can makes 360-degree laser scans of subjects to capture their likeness, making toys extraordinarily accurate. “I think collecting is just in our blood,”McFarlane adds.“I think adults have always collected things that interest them. I know, as a happily married man with three children, I still collect stuff I think is cool.”
