A “burglar screen” or “security screen” can protect your home against
choueb vandalism and intruders without compromising its visual appearance.
Burglar screens can be easily installed in front of existing doors and windows, either while building your new home or later as a retrofit. But don't confuse security screens with bug screens. Burglar screens are made from steel mesh; insect screens are usually made of aluminum or fibreglass.
The steel mesh in security window screens is mounted tightly inside a galvanized steel or anodized aluminum frame, preventing the panel from being pulled out.
These screens are made of 22-gauge steel and are hot-dipped, galvanized and then bonderized and given a baked-on enamel finish. A 12 x 12 mesh of .28 of stainless steel offers tensile strength of over 800 lbs./linear inch. The stainless steel mesh in security screens can resist cuts from a knife and other methods used in forced entry through open windows.
