The sinkhole was caused by September's heavy rains.
Traffic barriers Police say the driver's story didn't jive with what a witness told them after the driver appeared on television.
On September 26th Ira Strong's car was engulfed by a sinkhole on West Liddell Road near Satellite Boulevard in Duluth. Strong, 32, of Duluth told police he thought the road was open because traffic barriers had been pushed aside. The day after the incident strong told 11-Alive News "It was barricaded but not barricaded like you see now," he said pointing to barriers that were pushed to the side of the road. "There were just cones up and people were moving the cones," he said.
Strong said he never saw the sinkhole. "I just drove through thinking that the road was open and there was no way to see the hole until I was inside," he said. That was on
