Problem(Abstract)
This technote explains why attempts to create an IBM® Rational® ClearCase® VOB on Windows® using the VOB Creation Wizard results in the error VOB creation is disallowed between client and Heterogeneous server along with instructions to resolve the issue.
Cause
Attempts to create a VOB from a Windows client results in the following error:
Error creating VOB:
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: VOB creation is disallowed between client and Heterogeneous server "HOSTNAME".
VOB Creation Wizard: Error: Unable to create versioned object base "\\HOSTNAME\vobstore\my_vob.vbs".
The path used to store the VOB is a UNIX® or Linux® host.
Resolving the problem
When creating a VOB on Windows the VOB needs to be stored on Windows.
When creating a VOB on UNIX or Linux the VOB needs to be stored on UNIX or Linux.
Note: UNIX VOBs can be accessed from Windows clients (and vice versa) but the VOB needs to be created from a similar platform on which it will be stored
