《Minstrel Boy》 吟游男孩 and 《Gortoz A Ran》

   

   美国殖民地建立初期，大量爱尔兰移民因为躲避饥荒而来到美国。这些爱尔兰移民多数都处在社会中下层，很多都被英国殖民者视为流寇草民而倍受迫害。南北战争的时候，大量爱尔兰人将之视为提升社会地位的机会，因而纷纷入伍为北方军效力。这时大量歌曲被创作出来，而其中流传最广的，就是这首《Minstrel Boy 吟游男孩》。这也是一首叛逆的歌曲。Thomas Moore，一个鞋匠的儿子，在诗歌和音乐方面才华横溢，在他27岁的时候，出版了歌曲集《Irish Melodies》。在Trinity College就读期间，他结识了很多爱尔兰共和国的革命者，他们后来发动了1798年的起义，大多数人都死于绞架。而Thomas Moore则在英国的一所法律学校度过余生。 他根据爱尔兰古民谣《The Moreen》创作的歌曲《Minstrel Boy 吟游男孩》脍炙人口，在美国南北军中都广为传唱。
