Public key authentication is an alternative means of identifying yourself to a login server, instead of typing a password. It is more secure and more flexible, but more difficult to set up.
Preliminary Setup
Setting up public key authentication to access a particular remote host is a one-time procedure comprising three steps.
Step 1
run \Tool\puttygen.exe to generate a public/private key pair on your local desktop.
Click the "Generate" button. You will be prompted to move the mouse over the blank area to generate some randomness. Do so. Shortly thereafter, the program will generate the key and display the result (see Figure 1).
