CoreCodec is proud to release v1.2.1 our "OFFICIAL GOLD RELEASE" of CorePlayer Mobile and CorePlayer Pro.
This 'gold' release signifies over 6 months of development effort to push the limits on what we can do... and while some of you may say not alot has changed. You need to look beyond the UI and see what we have posted in regards to many of the CORE changes and additions that will now allow us to work faster in expanding usability and stickiness of the platform in general.
So with that we are proud to introduce our Official Gold Release with our integrated YouTube support built right into CorePlayer. Now many of you might say no biggie... there are a few applications that can do the same thing... or "I can go right to YouTube.com to watch the videos and it looks better, so why do I need CorePlayer?" ahhh... but then that where you would be wrong. Lets touch on a few points.
- Multi-platform with no dependancies (web browser)
- No Adobe Flash required
But the BIGGEST reason why YouTube is better in CorePlayer then on YouTube.com or any other third party application? CorePlayer is the first media player to feature Configurable YouTube quality control.... You control the bandwidth and quality that your platform can handle. From Low, Medium, to High quality (H.264) streams. Once you start to play with the YT interface in CP and play with the quality settings you will see what we mean by 'Great'!!!
Some things you can do with YouTube in CorePlayer:
- Disable YouTube 'Tools > Preferences > Select Page > Network' and uncheck 'Enable YouTube Support' Restart and its gone
- Set stream/quality 'Tools > Preferences > Select Page > Network > YouTube Format'
* Low (RTSP)
** Medium (RTSP)
*** High (H.264)
- Change the default YouTube Profile to be shown 'Tools > Preferences > Select Page > Network > YouTube User' change to the user you wish
- Use http://m.youtube.com on Pocket IE (mobile) or IE (desktop) and click "play' to play a video in CorePlayer.
- See previously played YT videos in the CoreTheque Media Library under 'Top 50', '100 Last Played' or 'Not Rated'
- Open YouTube Videos the 'EASY' way. 'File > Open URL' youtube://123456 (replace 123456 with the video ID, for example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=123456 )
Now YT support is not complete and in fact there is alot more we will be adding like Bookmarks, More fluid linking, 'get more' from the topics, etc. One thing to also note that YT might change how they handle streams from time to time (they do this often) so look for any updates of CP if YT goes down for any given connectivity profile. So what we need is feedback.. what broke, what need to be added, changed, removed. So let us know what you think. (CoreCodec is not responsive for your bandwidth usage ;-) So please check your phone providers data plan limits to make sure you are not going to get charged for streaming data.)
YouTube Todo
- Add buffering icon when the video is initial selected (not just when the video viewport window is shown)
- Add option to pause YT video when finished
- Add Bookmarks
- Add 'more' to topic results
- Add end of video overlay buttons with 'Replay, Bookmark, Copy URL
Symbian Status: We will release the Symbian versions in 2-3 weeks. Our goal is to try and add the YT support as well as hardware acceleration support (or at least move towards a release). One thing to note is that if we don't want to add hardware support right away we could potentially release Symbian in a little less/over a week.
Palm Status: As stated in the Palm forum... we are gonna try and see if Palm is capable of doing some of the advanced features we have just added in the current CP. This is not an easy task (the Palm OS is limited) so we will let everyone know how things are going over the next few weeks.
We still have a long way to go on our CorePlayer 1.x. journey. But as with every new version is released we want to thank the CoreCodec community for their continued feedback and support as the CorePlayer platform grows and as we grow with it.
