1. Download vnc-3.3.3r2-3.aix5.1.ppc.rpm from
2. run rpm -ivh vnc-3.3.3r2-3.aix5.1.ppc.rpm to install
3. Install X11* filesets from CD
4. run rc.dt to start KDE
5. run vncserver
you may encounter errors as following:
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
Solution: step 6
xrdb: A file or directory in the path name does not exist.
1356-613 xrdb: can't open file '//.Xresources
Solution: step 7
6. Modify /usr/bin/X11/vncserver
change line 149 from
# $cmd .= " -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/";
to
$cmd .= " -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/,/usr/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/";
7. Run touch ~/.vnc/.Xresources
8. Modify ~/.vnc/xstartup
comment or delete all existing lines. add a line
/usr/dt/bin/dtsession &
Note: If you do not change xstart, you can only see a command line terminal instead of KDE desktop.
9. run vncserver, now you should be able to login from vncviewer
