Upon completion of this module, you should be able to:
Identify storage troubleshooting strategies for the enterprise environment
Troubleshooting a variety of storage faults on available lab equipment
Use available administration tools to troubleshoot and isolate storage-related problems
The primary purpose of the enterprise environment is to keep the systems, applications, and information available to all users.
No scheduled downtime
Software tools take hot-pluggable components offline
Alternate pathing
Basic concepts for the purposes of AP:
An I/O device is either a disk or network
An I/O controller is the controller board for an I/O device
An I/O port is a connector on a controller board
A device node is a physical device; for example, /dev/dsk/c0t0d1s0
How AP Software Helps in Repairs
It replaces parts in an AP-devices path
The AP device has one active and one inactive alternate paths:
The inactive alternate path is disabled
Components in the disabled alternate path are replaced
The disabled alternate path is tested and enabled
The active alternate path is switched to the path just repaired
The second alternate path is repaired in the same way
