You're only using a .0.0 version? Upgrade it.

Use the cli if the gui gives you problems. There is help on how to do it under "dsmc help".

now, how can I get the whole folder F:\INT, I use GUI, but the "Point in time" confuse me, and I can't find my lost files!!

start the tsm client gui and in the view section choose display active/inactive files, and than go to your folder and check your files...

Are you using gui or cli? There is a manual for both of them you could read it.

Briefly, if you want to restore it with cli run
dsmc restore f:\INT\3.2D\OC1\3P82024721H.jpg -pick -inactive

Or you can use wildcards and use the pitdate/pittime parameters (check the documentation for syntax). If you set the pitdate&time to just after the files were backed up this will restore them.

with your new command, I can find something like this,

my question is how can I restore this file "3P82024721H.jpg" (sorry, I am a green hand on TSM, I mean what time should I set to restore this file)

and this file come out in dsmsched.log, look at this:

No it would apply on a per file basis not for the entire directory tree. So any individual files that were recreated were probably lost 6 hours later. Are you really sure this happened though? Use the sql query above, or "dsmc q backup f:\INT\ -subdir=yes" to check.

if there are three folders in F:\INT, and each has their own files and folders
F:\INT\tom
F:\INT\tom\*
F:\INT\jimmy
F:\INT\jimmy\*
F:\INT\kevin
F:\INT\kevin\*\*
now someone delete the "INT" folder, and we keep only one verion for 10 days
and after some time someone recreate the folder "INT" then after servel hours
our last version been deleted because we just keep 3 version exist
the problem is this "someone" just create the folder "INT" and then our last version of
backup expired? so we lost our data...

The "expired" statement in dsmsched.log just means the client is telling the TSM server to make them "inactive", its a bit of a confusing message. Once inactive they are processed against the retention policy you have setup, which is 1 version of deleted files which means you should still have the very last copy of that file.

If somebody recreated the file and then it was backed up again 3 times - that old copy might then be lost due to your verexists limit.

If you want to double check if the files still exist run this from the admin command line:

select * from backups where node_name='YOURNODENAMEINALLCAPS' and filespace_name='\\kabmnt1\d$' and hl_name='\INT\'

(be careful with your capitalisation (keep it as above) and the \'s)

no one knows what cause the files lost
we suspect the files under F:\INT deleted by somebody, but we can't find any proof
the files were recreate on 3rd,
I think maybe TSM delete all the files, can it possible?

Were the files "lost" on the 2nd by them being completely deleted from the client? Were the files recreated between then and the 3rd before you tried to restore them?

You're backing it up every 2 hours. With retver set to 3, this means you can only restore to 6 hours ago if the file is changing regularly (3 versions x 2 hours).

and can not find files in F:\INT 4 hours ago, other folders is ok

and the dsm.opt file is all right!

now, I lost all files in F:\INT, but I can't restore them, because it happens for more

TSM can not restore a special folder
 

I backup my windows 2003 server F:\ incremental full backup every 2 hours

policy
Versions Data Exists 3
Versions Data Deleted 1
Retain Extra Versions 10
Retain Only Version 10

and now I can not restore files in "F:\INT" one day ago

other folder is ok

我在adsm.org上的第一个问题，顺利得到解决
不能恢复数据的原因是backup/restore的 GUI出问题了，出什么问题不知道，只是不能恢复那个时间段数据，日常的数据恢复还是可以用的
解决的办法是使用Cli来完成
命令如下：
>dsmc restore -pitdate=03/02/2008 pittime=09:40:00 F:\public\CELL\INT\ -subdir=yes

命令行功能很强大，以后要多用命令行来完成这些事情
以后记得整理一篇在client上使用的命令行进行备份和恢复的文章出来
