There are a lot of people out there selling vintage Rolex with customized, colored faces. We have to admit, they look good too. We see em' all over the place down here in New York, but we can't help but wonder, if you are looking for a fresh vintage Rolex with a unique face, wouldn't you prefer it to be an original?
Enter the Rolex to the right. This original stainless steel Rolex is from 1981, a chic year if we've ever heard of one, and has a classic snow-white dial. Of course, the most interesting part of this watch is the insignia on the face. For those who don't know, fine Swiss watches are something of a weakness for the affluent men of the Middle East. After all, we've seen three watches come from Oman, and of course this amazing Omega with a dial written in Persian.
It is no surprise to us that someone in the United Arab Emirates contracted the watch to the right, with the UAE Eagle sitting right in the middle of the face. This watch is being sold at Antiquorum's upcoming auction in Hong Kong. Best part about it? Estimates are only $2300-$3300, about the same as what people are paying for those after market colored Datejusts.
Yes another Tudor watch. This one is particularly timely because it features the name of someone who recently made the news for winning his 15th major came in second in what would've been his 15th major as a professional golfer. We are of course talking about Mr. Tiger Woods. Now many of you must be thinking, "Hey, isn't Tiger sponsored by Tag Heuer? And yes, he is, but when he was just a little Tiger-pup he was endorsed by Tudor. Much like Roger Federer and his relationship with Maurice Lacroix, the Tiger/Tudor deal hit the skids when modern-legend status was achieved and bigger companies and bucks came calling. Our guess is if Rolex had known just how good Tiger was going to be, they would've bumped him up to a Rolex sponsorship deal (if Phil is worthy, don't you think Tiger is too?).
Anyways, the watch we've found today looks a hell of a lot like a Rolex Daytona, doesn't it? Well it should, because it's supposed to. It features the very same case as the Daytona, which includes the bezel, pushers, and crown (signed by Tudor, however). What makes this watch more unique than typical Prince-Date chronographs from Tudor is that it is signed "Tiger" under the top register. This Tiger Woods Tudor comes on an actual Rolex bracelet along with a Tudor leather strap. It was recently serviced (March 2009) and also comes with all original boxes and hang tags.
