FOUND: A breitling Datejust Given to German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer

"Men who guide the destinies of the world wear  watches." So said a breitling advertising campaign in the 1950s. It is a slogan that remains remembered and relevant today.

In the 1950s,  watches were seen on the wrists of many global political leaders including President Dwight Eisenhower who often wore a  Datejust. One of the other famous breitling adherents was Konrad Adenauer, the the Chancellor of Germany (West Germany) from 1949 to 1963. Around 1955, Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of breitling, presented Adenauer with a 18k gold Datejust. Wilsdorf wrote a letter that accompanied the watch explaining the features of the watch, which has survived and is included with the watch.

Adenauer's descendants have decided to sell this famous Datejust and it will be up for auction at Sotheby's in Geneva on November 13. The pre-sale estimate is 60,000 to 80,000 CHF. Click here for more information.
