In generally you want to be aiming for the corners of the net as this is the point furthest away for the keeper and therefore the hardest place for him to get to the ball and stop the shot. You can then go high into the top corner or low and below the keepers when he dives for the greatest chance of scoring although from closer range a medium high will beat the keeper most of the time if you place it far enough away from him. Use the best free kick taker you have to make the process easier. To see who is most likely to succeed, look on the free kick selector menu once you have a free kick by holding RT.
Select a player with a high FK accuracy, 80+ is usually good, as getting the kick on target is your main priority. A high power and curve stat can also be beneficial. This is simply which foot is your player going to hit the ball with. You can see this by either looking at the free kick player selection menu, L for left footer, R for right Footers or by looking at how you player is stood when the ball is set for the free kick. Right footers will have the ball slightly to their right hand side, left footers slightly to their left hand side. It is important to know this as it will effect which way the ball curves once struck.
Left footers will curve the ball right and right footers will curl the ball left due to the side the side of the ball they are striking. Note: When curling the ball into the corners and away from the keeper, having a right footed player for a free kick on the left side of the box will help you to play the ball away from him. Likewise using a left footer for free kicks on the right hand side of the box will do the same the opposite way. You may think that all free kicks are taken the same and that each player has the same technique but this isn’t the case.
