Can lead ore be upgraded by gravity separator? The answer is yes, and gravity separation can be used to upgrade and puryfy some lead ore with granule inlay. And it is up to the ore nature about which kind of gravity separator shall be used.
There is lead sulfide and lead oxide when we say lead ore. Lead oxide is inlayed unevenly with fine grains and it is easy to be crushed to be powder, and gravity separation can not work well for this kind of lead ore. However, lead sulfide is usually inlayed coarsely with its big density, and this pave a lot for gravity separation of lead concentration.
There are three points to consider when judging whether the gravity separation workd for the lead ore upgrading:
1) is there clear boundry between lead granules and impurities? Can crushing or milling can realize the liberation or dissociation of lead granules?
2) is there obvious density difference between the lead granules and impurities? Generally, the lead granules has a big density while the gangue has a small density. However, if the inlay size is too fine, the density difference will be very small for gravity separation.
3) the inlay size of lead granules The inlay size of lead granules decides the degree of crushing or milling.
Gravity separation of lead ore will save a lot comparing with floatation separation of lead. Sometimes gravity separation can get even better beneficiation efficiency than floatation separation. So it is really important to choose the right beneficiation equipment according to the ore nature and composition.
