"As I grew up, my interest in refereeing too grew. Also in those days, Pierluigi Collina of Italy was the reigning referee and was about the best in the world. So, anytime I saw him refereeing on television, I concentrate. And by 1995, I had grown to become an international referee and had started interacting with some international referees like Lim Kee Chong from Mauritius and Egyptian Gamal El Ghandour. And after some of my games, they would come up to me and say 'I think you have a bright future.’
Being appointed as one of the referees to the U-17 World Youth Championship in Trinidad and Tobago in 2001 was one moment Chukwujekwu will not forget in a hurry.
