Friendly Preview: South Korea v Peru South Korea's resilient defence will likely be put to the test by a strong Peru forward line when the two sides meet in Suwon on Wednesday. The hosts have conceded just four goals in their last six fixtures, including two clean sheets in the East Asian Cup against China and Australia, as they finished third in the competition. However, with Peru bringing an impressive array of attacking talent for the international friendly clash, the home side's miserly rearguard is likely to come under pressure – particularly given the absence of Kim Young-gwon, who has been left out as he is due to feature for club side Guangzhou Evergrande in the Chinese Super League just two days before the fixture. The form of Korea's defence was one of the few positives to take from the East Asian Cup campaign, as Hong Myung-bo's side completed their tournament without a following a last-gasp defeat against Japan. New coach Hong was hamstrung in his selection by the absence of several of his European-based players, but he will still be looking for an improvement against the talent-packed South American side on Wednesday. Bundesliga duo Claudio Pizarro and Jefferson Farfan are both in the Peru squad while former Bayern and Hamburg forward Paolo Guerrero is also likely to feature for the visitors. With the European season due to get under way shortly, Hong has again opted to do without his European-based stars, with 13 players called up from the domestic K-League and and seven from Japan's J League. Attacking midfielder Lim Sang-hyub of Busan IPark has been included first his first call up after impressing in the K-League while Cho Chan-ho of Pohang Steelers will be hoping to earn his second cap. I players who are in good form in the domestic league, Hong said at a press conference ahead of the clash. I felt these new faces would help us address the problem we had on offense at the East Asian Cup. Both Lim and Cho could be involved as Hong continues to assess his options ahead of next year's FIFA World Cup finals. Despite a 1-0 defeat to Iran in their final qualifier, Korea secured their place in Brazil by finishing second in their group ahead of Uzbekistan on goal difference. Peru's hopes of qualifying for the showpiece are still very much in the balance. Sergio Markarian's side sit in seventh in the CONMEBOL zone, two points behind Uruguay in the intercontinental play-off spot, who they face in September.
