I see what you are saying, but think of it from Liverpool's perspective: Financial Fair Play is coming soon, we want either a redeveloped or a new stadium and wherever we can get it we want more money. After being essentially a commercial flop after the Champions League and FA Cup wins, I highly doubt Ayre is going to put the club through such dire straits again, and he's taking every possible sign of marketability he can. Warrior are giving us a record breaking amount of money (at least for now, I think Man Utd have got an even higher one in the pipeline) and from Warrior's perspective, Liverpool FC's giving them (an American based company that virtually noone outside of the US knows) an absolutely gargantuan worldwide audience to break into. Win win. I can't possibly say it's the best deal we've made, as I have no idea what other offers were on the table. But personally it sounds great, and much better than anything Adidas offered.

Your probably right but one thing to consider:

Adidas already have big brand recognition in Europe. Warrior don't. Thus it is bigger incentive for Warrior to get brand recognition in the market they have obviously chosen as part of there growth strategy. So it would be fairly obvious that Warrior would be prepared to pay more and that Addidas would consider they have got good brand awareness already and hence not be prepared to pay as much if they have other promotional deals in place that will acheive what they want. Of course thing may change when its up for renewal.

PS: forget to say: Football shirts sales will be only a extremely small part of Adidas sales. its all about brand recognition and hence driving overall sales. I would suggest that Adidas are more focused in growing in other global places like India, etc. plus they are spending lots on the Olympics so I guess they decided that rather spend the extra monies being asked elsewhere. Now if you really wanted an exciting prospect with huge potential in a growing market for football that would have been a deal with Li Neng a real win win. I'm not sure where the clubs win is apart from the basic sponsorship money. but obviously we don't know the detail but I would have lots of questions to ask.
