Track and fieldAt the Federal League meet on May 11 at Jackson High, Boardman junior Giovanna Silvestri earned First Team honors in the shot put with a career best toss of 37 feet 10 inches to win the event.
Silvestri also earned Second Team honors in the discus by placing second by throwing 121 foot 8 inches.
Those marks qualified her to the New Balance Outdoor Scholastic Nationals in the emerging elite division.
Freshman Jordan Grantonic earned Honorable Mention honors by finishing third in the 1600, running a careerbest time of 5:23.41. That qualified her to the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in the freshman mile.
At the May 5 Optimist Meet, senior Tori Moore, sophomore Emma Schwendeman, and freshmen Heaton and Regan O'Hara qualified in the nationals' emerging elite division for their time in the 4x800 meter relay.
The Boardman girls track team placed fifth overall in the Federal League with a 33 dual meet record.
