Membership grew to 10,000 1966 and 40,000 in 1984, when the nation's first LDS temple in Guatemala City was dedicated.

Today, membership is 226,027, with 415 congregations and five missions located in Guatemala.

The First Presidency also announced extensive renovations for the Boise Idaho Temple, with the structure to be closed beginning July 11. The temple will be rededicated after its renovation.

It marks the second such closure for the temple, which was announced in March 1982 and dedicated May 25, 1984. Due to a high level of use over the first twoplus years (it operated at 102 percent of capacity its first year), the temple was closed for renovation and expansion and reopened in 1987.

The Boise Temple was the state's second temple, after the Idaho Falls Temple. Since then, temples have been opened in Rexburg and Twin Falls, the latter to help accommodate Boise temple patrons during the closure.

In the April 2011 LDS general conference, President Thomas S. Monson announced Idaho's fifth temple in Meridian, 11 miles west of Boise.

Different than typical Mormon meetinghouses used for Sunday worship services and midweek activities, Latterday Saint temples are considered by members as "houses of the Lord," where Jesus Christ's teachings are reaffirmed through marriage, baptism and other temple ordinances that are believed to unite families for eternity. Also in the temple, Church members learn more about the purpose of life and strengthen their commitment to serve Jesus Christ and those around them.

1 Tour company in Egypt with impeccable integrity

This was a dream trip to Egypt planned for this October that was sidetracked by medical issues that precluded any travel and hence cancellation. Memphis Tours offered to hold deposit funds and tour itinerary for future date, however, the uncertainties of the medical condition and outcome and the necessity for the committed funds suggested that a refund was desirable. Mr. Abdo Younis, our Memphis Tour consultant, was able to effecta refund with very minimal fees and minimal delay. He handled this with the same professionalism, concern, care, and integrity that was the hallmark of his original itinerary planning. I have no qualms in completely backing Memphis Tours, and in particular, Mr. Abdo Younis for their superb customer support, service and impeccable integrity. God willing, and with a good outcome and complete recovery, we intend to return to Mr. Abdo Younis and Memphis Tours to formulate another itinerary and complete our dream trip to Egypt.

I had a 16 hour layover in Cairo and decided to to a day tour. Memphis Tours was wonderful from the first contact I had with them. They took care of all the arrangement, met me at the airport and my guide, Momen, was able to help me see all the highlights of Cairo. He was very informative, and also made sure I was safe. As a single female in a different culture, this was important to me. He also helped me avoid typical tourist trap areas and took me to places geared toward my interests. He and the driver, Hassan, were wonderful! Mohamed Abdo was the coordinator who met me at the airport and made sure all the arrangements were in place. The three of them made sure this tour was a relaxing minivacation with no hassles. I recommend anyone who is visiting Egypt book with Memphis Tours!
