The Reverso is probably the most recognizable Jaeger LeCoultre timepiece particularly due to its iconic rectangular shape and reversible case.

In the 1920s, British Army officers in India complained that their watches could not handle the beatings they incurred during the course of the polo games. Jaeger LeCoultre took these complaints seriously and developed a reversible case that protected the watch crystal from being damaged by shock or impact. In 1931, they introduced (and patented) the Reverso.

In 2011, the Reverso celebrates its 80th anniversary with its new model, the ultra thin (7.2mm) "Tribute to 1931." Although few re editions and tribute watches by other brands come close to their original ancestors, Jaeger LeCoultre has done a superb job with theirs.

Jaeger LeCoultre will create two versions of the Tribute to 1931 Reverso, a regular production model in stainless steel and a limited edition in rose gold. While limited edition models are often the most impressive, it best with icon watches to stick to the material in which the original models were crafted in this case, stainless steel.

Both versions have a dial that resembles the original Reverso design, with no mention of the Jaeger LeCoultre manufacture and only the word printed at 12 o An ultra flat, manual wind in house movement shows the basic functionality of hours and minutes (with no seconds or a date window).

Jaeger LeCoultre had been in business 98 years when they introduced the Reverso in 1931, and they have remained in business for the 80 years since. The Reverso is to Jaeger LeCoultre as the Submariner is to Rolex, the Speedmaster is to Omega or the Royal Oak is for Audemars Piguet. It a cult watch that will never go out of style, as long as you get a version that close to the original, and the Tribute to 1931 Reverso is as close to the original as it gets.Tribute To 1931
