Rewalsar is an escape away for tourists just offthetrodden path in Himachal Pradesh. Pilgrims come here to make prayers, pleasure trip, contemplate or simply absorb themselves in the serene atmosphere. There is a holy lake that encompasses three temples, a gurudwara and three monasteries in the heart of Rewalsar. This is also an example of tolerance and secularism.
Rewalsar is also called Rewalsar Tso Pema by both Tibetan and Himachali Buddhists in the name of the great Indian saint Padmasambhava who lived to meditate there. There is a stature of 12 meter of the great saint in the hillside above the lake. There is a picturesque village nearby called Sarkhidar, set amidst the valleys surrounded by hills. On such a hilltop is the temple of Naina dev ji. Almost all the villages of Rewalsar are situated in the most scenic areas of Himachal Pradesh. Rewalsar Lake is located at 25 km from Mandi and 14 km from Ner Chowk. There are reeds in the islands. The gurudwara at Rewalsar had been built to commemorate the month long stay of the great Sikh prophet Guru Govind Singh. It was built by Raja Joginder Singh in 1930. The three Hindu temples of Rewalsar are dedicated to Lord Shri Krishna, Lord Shiva and Lomas. The escape of the Pandavas from the gutted wax palace in Mahabharata is also associated with Rewalsar.

There is the Pangna fort- a tower-like edifice on a 50 ft stone podium overlooking the small settlement that spreads on its either sides. The seven storied monument prides its antiquated honour. Even after withstanding the wear and tear of time down the centuries the wood carvings of the monument never fails to catch our fancy. The Kamla fort is a trekkers delight in the Himachal region which rises above 4772 meters above the sea level. It is named after Kamla Baba a local saint. Kamlagarh is about 80 km from Mandi. Famous for being the refuge of many temples, at a distance of 26 km from Mandi and rising above 1,174 metres from the sea level the parish of Sundernagar is identified with its dappled walks amidst soaring trees. On the hilltop lie the temple of Mahamaya and Sukhdev Vatika. Janjeli located at 85 km from Mandi is a virgin tourist spot known for its immaculate and serene natural beauty. It is at a height of 3,000 meters and an obvious choice for trekkers who want to explore the heights of the Himachal. At Jogindernagar there is a hydroelectric project where a roaring river falls from a height of 8202 ft from a mountain top. The Prashar Lake lies at 45 km north to Mandi. This place is known for the three storied sanctuary committed in the name of the saint Prashar.
How to reach Rewalsar:
The nearest airport is Juberhatti which is 23 km from Shimla city and connected to Delhi by different means. Also there is a very good rail and road network from Rewalsar to different parts of the country.
