Radio Solent saw the biggest rise, up 29,000 from its previous figure,
now scooping 272,000 listeners every week. The number of hours people
are
tuning in for also went up at the station, now an average of
more than ten hours a week, up more than one from the same time last
year.
The figures will be a welcome boost to management at the
BBC station after they recorded their lowest ever share of the listening
audience when previous results were published in March.
In the
south's commercial stations Galaxy received the biggest boost with
31,000 more listeners each week and listeners tuning in for an average
of 8.2 hours every seven days.
BBC Radio Solent managing editor Chris Carnegy said: "It's great news that we have 272,000 listeners
each week, which is the highest number in more than two years. Everyone
at BBC Radio Solent
strives to give our audience engaging radio and the fact more people are joining us and listening for longer is heartening."
