(Sports Network) - Toronto will continue a five-game road trip this evening as they visit the Grizzlies in Memphis.
.
The team fell to 1-1 on the trek following a 98-84 loss at New Jersey on
Wednesday.
Jerryd Bayless ended with 16 points and 10 assists, while James Johnson
also netted 16 points and DeMar DeRozan added 12 points for the Raptors,
who have lost five of eight games and was coming off a win at
Cleveland.
"The Nets outworked us. [Kris] Humphries had 21 rebounds. You have to be
physical with him in the paint, and we didnt have that," Raptors head
coach Dwane Casey said.
The Raptors shot 38.3 percent and got 11 points off the bench from
Leandro Barbosa. Barbosa was then shipped to Indiana before the trade
deadline for a second-round pick and cash. Toronto fell to 7-15 on the
road this year and guard Jose Calderon missed his third straight game
with a sprained right ankle. Calderon is questionable for tonight.
Toronto will also visit the Bobcats and Knicks on the trip and has lost
six in a row to the Grizzlies, including a recent 102-99 setback on
March 2 at Air Canada Centre. Memphis has won 15 of the last 20 meetings
between the teams and eight of 10 encounters on Beale Street.
The Grizzlies didnt do much to bolster their roster before the NBAs
trade deadline and look to get back on track when they resume their
three-game homestand tonight versus the Raptors.
Memphis did send swingman Sam Young to Philadelphia in exchange for the
rights to forward Ricky Sanchez. Young played 21 games for the Grizzlies
this season, averaging 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds. Sanchez has yet to
play an NBA game since being selected by Portland in the second round of
the 2005 draft.
The Grizzlies have lost two of three games since a five-game winning
streak and opened the homestand with Tuesdays 116-111 double-overtime
loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Marreese Speights had 25 points to lead
Memphis and Marc Gasol scored 20 with 11 rebounds.
"We played a great game and we should have won the game," Grizzlies head
coach Lionel Hollins said. "We lost to a team that played better. Weve
got to give them their due and weve just got to get ready to come back
on Friday."
Mike Conley had 10 points and 11 assists, and has recorded multiple
steals in a franchise-record and career-high 12 consecutive games.
Hollins squad lost for only the third time in the past 13 games and will
also host Washington on the residency. The Grizzlies are 15-6 at home
and sit four games behind San Antonio for the Southwest lead.
In injury news for Memphis, forward Rudy Gay (concussion) is probable
for Friday and forward Zach Randolph (knee) is listed as questionable.
Randolph hasnt played since Jan. 1 at Chicago due to an MCL tear in his
right knee and is averaging 14.8 points ad 7.5 rebounds in four games
this season.

Otherwise, it was a pretty rude homecoming for the former Jazz All-Star.
Williams, returning to Utah for the first time since a Feb. 23 trade,
started 0 of 3, was just 2 of 12 at halftime and finished with 16 points
on 3-of-15 shooting as the Jazz beat the New Jersey Nets 107-94 on
Saturday night. . -- Mike Smith was stingy in goal, but generous with his praise after his second shutout of the season.

Four years later, Russia is built around a nucleus of the same players,
is again led by a Dutch coach, and will be looking to go a step further
in Poland and Ukraine.
Russia coach Dick Advocaat has fielded a largely unchanged lineup since
the last European Championship, building trust and experience among
players who almost all compete in Russias national league.

Benavidez (16-2) defeated Yasuhiro Urushitani in the first round of the
four-man 125-pound tournament designed to produce a champion. Johnson

in a draw.
.S. Cellular Field for the first of three games with the host Chicago
White Sox.
A 27-year-old from Maryland, Laffey debuted in 2007 with the Cleveland
Indians and won 18 times in 79 appearances through 2010, before he was
sent to the Seattle Mariners prior to the start of the 2011 season.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jeremy Guthrie delivered a quality start for the
Kansas City Royals on Friday night against the potent Texas Rangers
offence.
Guthrie limited the Rangers to six hits and three runs in six-plus
innings, but it was not enough for him to pick up his first victory in
more than two months.
Matt Harrison gave the beleaguered Texas pitching staff a strong start,
Mitch Moreland hit a three-run homer and the Rangers defeated the Royals
5-3.
Guthrie (3-11) is winless in three Kansas City starts since being
acquired in a July 20 trade with the Colorado Rockies for
Jonathan Sanchez and has not won since May 31 against Houston.
"Thats the best start weve seen from him," Royals manager Ned Yost said.
"It was great to see him get on track. He was getting his fastball up
to 95 and executing pitches.
"He kept the ball down and he really matched Harrison pitch for pitch.
Thats a difficult task against their lineup and Jeremy almost did that.
He kept us in the ballgame; he kept us one swing away."
The Rangers loaded the bases with one out in the first on a single by
Ian Kinsler and walks to Elvis Andrus and Adrian Beltre, but scored only
one run. Nelson Cruzs fly ball to Jeff Francoeur at the wall in right
field brought home Kinsler.
"We caught a break there on Cruz," Yost said. "In Texas that ball is out
of here. Its in the seats. He gave up the second run on a curveball up
just a little bit. It wasnt a horrible pitch, just a little up. He went
after them."
Guthrie threw only 11 strikes in 25 pitches that inning.
"The first inning I was up in the zone a little," Guthrie said. "After
that I was getting that feeling, making better pitches. I was trying to
make close pitches and make the best pitches. In the first, I didnt
really have the feel to make the best pitches. I just need to locate
better.&quoot;
The Royals tied it in the second when they loaded the bases with no
outs. .
Salvador Perez started it with a single, Francoeur walked and
Eric Hosmer beat out an infield single. Yuniesky Betancourt, however,
grounded into a double play with Perez scoring.
The Rangers took the lead in the fourth, which Beltre opened with a
single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on David Murphys
single. Murphy is hitting .396 with 32 RBIs in 53 at-bats with runners
in scoring position.
"I was surprised (Murphy) took a swing at it, it was such a bad pitch,
but I made my own mess by leaving the ball up in the zone," Guthrie
said.
The Royals chased Harrison in the seventh. Chris Getz and Alex Gordon
had two-out infield singles. After Alcides Escobars run-scoring single,
Tanner Scheppers replaced Harrison, who held the Royals to two runs and
eight hits.
Betancourts two-out double in the eighth scored Francoeur with the final
Royals run.
Alexi Ogando worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save in five
opportunities.
Notes: Rangers manager Ron Washington said he would not use RHP
Joe Nathan on Friday and probably not Saturday after his closer threw 62
pitches in pitching an inning each Wednesday and Thursday. He gave up
four runs and four hits, including three home runs, in the appearances
against the Angels. It was the first time this season Nathan had allowed
earned runs in consecutive games. ... 3B Mike Moustakas was held out of
the Royals lineup with a bone bruise on his right knee. Moustakas
aggravated it Thursday sliding into second base against Cleveland. He
first hurt his knee on a fielding play in the first inning July 28 at
Seattle. ... RHP Scott Feldman, who starts Saturday for the Rangers, has
won five straight decisions after starting the season 0-6. The Royals
will counter with rookie LHP Will Smith.
