  Mr. James scott has a garage in silbury and now he has  just bought another garage in Pinhurst.Pinhurst is only five miles from silbury.but he can't get a telephone for his new garage.So he has just bought twelve pigeions.Yestoday the pigeion carried the first message from Pinhurst to silbury.The bird covered the distance in three minutes.Up to now,Mr. scott has sent a great many requests of spare parts and other urgent messages from one garage to the other .In this way,he has begun his own private telephone service.

 

1.from silbury 介词from作 "距。。。" “离。。。” 常与away连用。如It is far(way) from here离这很远。

 

2.up to new(=up till now) 到现在为止;作时间状语,句子的时态多用现在完成时。

 

3.a great many 许多的，其中great表示数量很大;只能同可数名记号的复数连用。
