At the end of 2009, a development team at Cisco contacted me, and then started to use the VI Java API for integration with VMware vSphere. Like many other partners, they succeeded. Here is a paragraph I received from Andrew Levin (product manager) and Louis Jia (development manager). Thanks Andrew and Louis!

Cisco and VMware have joined forces to help you take advantage of the full power of data center virtualization to significantly improve data center and software utilization, boost infrastructure agility, and simplify operations. As companies seek to better integrate the VM topology with the underlying infrastructure, Cisco working close with VMware adapted open source (VI Java) API to allow discovery of the end-to-end topology from VM down to ESX server through the physical fabric to storage array port. This results in a reduction of overall complexity, better management and visibility of the overall data center system, and a more agile infrastructure.
