Present magnetic separator problem and solutions

1. Ore problems when in operation
(1) Due to large amount of lean iron ore (takes up 97.5% of total iron ore reservation) and associated ore (takes up one third of total iron ore reservation), and high degree hardness of ore stone, magnetic separator unavoidably suffer impact force from pelleted mineral and wear seriously. It is not unusual case that magnetic drum surface wear out by ore rocks. Once worn out, magnetic drum will be filled with ore slurry which adheres to surface of magnetic system. As a result, drum shell and magnetic system locked. In other case, ore slurry flows into bearing and causes damage to bearing or even the whole set of equipment.
(2) Strontium ferrite magnets and neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets are commonly used for magnetic system. However, the chemical stability of neodymium-Iron-Boron magnet is relatively poor. When magnetic drum is exposed in moisture environment, it is easy oxidation on surface and layer gradually peeling off. Although good the chemical stability is, strontium ferrite magnet generally bonded into magnetic group with epoxy resin adhering to magnetic system. But it also is easy to peel off. Above all, whether neodymium-Iron-Boron magnet or Strontium ferrite magnet, they all need being necessarily fixed.
2. Solutions
(1) Protect magnetic drum from being wore out. Add protective coating is a most effective way to prolong drum service life. It is wear resistant and easy for replacement. This protective layer uses wear-resistant rubber-coated, stainless steel plates, PU coating, PVC-coated control layer for testing. The testing results proved that PVC coating control layer can extend service life of drum to large extent.
(2) Fix magnetic system. We did a package testing to the magnetic system with glass ribbon brushed with epoxy resin, iron making packaging tape and iron stainless steel plate. According to testing results, we select 1Cr18Ni9Tistainless steel at 0.5cm thickness to pack magnetic system. The joints at two ends of stainless steel plate are nipped with thin clamp and fixed with bolt at both ends, which adjust the tension degree. In this way, it not only has little effect on the surface magnetic field but also is strong enough wrapped tight force to magnetic system. And the effect is significant. After the introduction of this method, it never occurred shedding of magnetic block, and thoroughly solved the the magnetic system fixed problem.
