Sr. Oracle DBA

·         The successful candidate will perform. database creation, administration and tuning to support our customers development, test and production databases.

The Mission Accomplishment and Regulatory Compliance Services (MARCS) Investment supports the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Regulatory Affairs' (ORA) critical work to safeguard the foods, drugs, devices, biologics, and veterinary products that the Agency regulates. 

MARCS supports the import program staff in the field to do the import entry review including Prior Notice review, fieldwork assignment, and compliance decision-making for the millions of import entry lines that are received each year. MARCS systems also support the domestic business processes for planning and conducting inspections, federal/state partnerships, workload management, investigative operations, laboratory analysis, compliance work, and other critical initiatives. MARCS currently operates and maintains over 20 systems, including legacy applications and new services and components introduced to modernize and enhance the IT capabilities needed by ORA. Some of these functions are mission-critical and must be operational 24 by 7. FDA (and various contractors) developed these systems over the last 15+ years using a variety of technologies. MARCS is comprised of inter-connected heterogeneous systems including Oracle 10g Web Forms and Reports applications, Java EE applications, Web services, as well as integration with various external systems. MARCS technologies encompass web based processing using tiered application architecture, load-balanced application servers, single-sign-on and firewall enabled security environment, multiple databases and database links, and FDA Intranet and Extranet topologies. Most systems are deployed on Sun/Solaris servers and access ORACLE 11g databases. The MARCS systems are primarily used for transaction processing. 

The qualified candidate will be responsible for the following:

Oracle L2 Database Administrator

Business description:

To provide Level 2 Oracle Database support and business customer service through reactive daily Oracle database administration and support, implementation of new and cloned databases, operational maintenance, and proactive change initiatives both initiated by infrastructure and clients.

 

Responsibilities:

Daily reactive Incident and Service Request support for Oracle Databases globally via hotline and ticketing systems. Perform. triage, initial troubleshooting, and escalation.

 

Proactively support the ongoing maintenance and optimization of preventative maintenance activities designed to increase the stability of the environment and maintain high levels of stability.

 

Interfaces proactively with other Infrastructure support teams such as UNIX, WINTEL, Network, IT Facilities, Backup, Storage, Monitoring, Security etc.

 

Provide 2nd level support to Oracle vendor teams, including training

Administer and maintain the security and integrity of the databases. Design database maintenance and upgrade processes and provide incident/problem management support. Resolve database performance issues, database capacity issues, replication, and other distributed data issues. Serves as an expert (SME) and guides others in the resolution of the most complex incidents and problems. Develops processes, procedures and defines metrics to review for capacity management. This role leads additional research into technology that provides improved resiliency and recovery for databases.

Role Specific Responsibilities

- Work with the Information / Data Architect and Database Designer / Modeler to help implement the physical data model for the development and / or production environments for Data Warehouse Systems and OLTP Systems.

- Help develop and validate the Data Warehouse and OLTP implementation plan

- Support the data loads into the databases

- Create database objects and maintain their physical organization / relationships
